no more "culture" in "agriculture"

Was just now viewing a debate in CNN-IBN on "green revolution through budget." I remember, in 2008, I attended a presentation by Prof. Som Karam Chetty where he mentioned, using technology to help agriculture. He mentioned about the use of technology in Supply Chain Management and production of agricultural products. Today after 3 years these thoughts emerge in the great mind of our economists.

Now the government is thinking about inviting FDI in retail. But is there a guarantee that foreign companies will give good prices to the farmers, not ask premium price from customers and not export the products when there is scarcity. The introduction of private players in distribution of agricultural products has itself increased the price of food items at retail outlets. These high benefits are not passed onto the farmers.

But a short cut of improving the storage and distribution of food items is to introduce FDI in retail. The FDIs have better technology of storage and efficient methods of reducing the cost of production. So the Indian companies and the government can learn a lot from them.

Both the options have some negatives and some positives. So the government will have to think of an innovative decision. It will have to learn the effective and efficient methods of FDIs without affecting the farmers and the customers, negatively.

There are many innovative ideas to solve this problem... Hope u can get some !!
